Flash Player 9 Keeps Crashing Firefox 2.0.0.3 [Slackware 11.0]

yup.
some sites are lame and the detection they use chokes on the linux version. one of the ones i hit required >= 6.0.4x and said mine was to old.

i sent an email to them but got no response, probably a fly-by-night frontpage commando that has no idea how to hack the raw code.

before you waste money on a web designer, at least run their main page through the w3c validator to see if they can actually make decent code.

Just wondering if you ever found a solution (other than using flash 7). I have the *exact* same problem with flash 9. I tried everything mentioned in this thread along with some experiments all to no avail. I can use flash 7, but not 9. (I really wouldn't care, but more and more sites are insisting on 9 only to display anything.)

I suggest watching the comments on the Adobe Flash blog to see if they ever release a stable plugin for Linux. I'm using an older version of the plugin (9r48 - because it uses fewer resources), but it still causes Firefox to crash multiple times per day. There are also scripts that can "screen scrape" some sites (like Youtube) so you can watch the videos in a player like xine, mplayer, etc.

I have 2 PC's which are pratically identical in terms of hardware and software. Firefox crashed on one of them with flash but not on the other. I never found out exactly why, but I found the solution by moving the 'libflashplayer.so' file from usr/lib/firefox/plugins to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.
